Syrina Rostash, RN

Owner | CPR Instructor

Syrina is from Laie, Hawaii, but she left after high school. Shortly after leaving Hawaii is when Syrina’s healthcare career began. Luckily, she and her husband have since been able to return to raise their kids in Hawaii.

Syrina’s career in healthcare has been dynamic and diverse. Starting as a dedicated firefighter/paramedic, she later expanded her expertise, becoming an accomplished ICU RN, ER RN, and Flight Nurse. Drawing from her background, Syrina recognized a crucial need within Hawaii’s healthcare landscape.

This realization inspired her to establish Defib Hawaii, a platform not only dedicated to providing essential American Heart Association (AHA) courses to medical professionals and the community but also committed to offering her wealth of experience and continuing education opportunities across the islands. Syrina is driven by a passion to equip healthcare providers in Hawaii with the tools and knowledge necessary to elevate the standard of care locally, ensuring our island communities thrive with robust healthcare support.

Mark Rostash, ACNP

Lead CPR Instructor

Mark’s journey in healthcare began as an exercise physiologist, but his thirst for knowledge and passion for patient care led him to expand his expertise. With experience spanning from the fast-paced environment of the ER and trauma units to the critical care setting of the ICU, Mark’s career trajectory eventually saw him soar as a Flight Nurse before settling into his current role as a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner.

What sets Mark apart is not just his extensive clinical background, but also his innate gift for teaching. He possesses a rare ability to simplify complex concepts, making them accessible to learners of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Whether you’re a seasoned physician, a fresh-faced graduate student, or a community member seeking CPR certification, Mark’s teaching style ensures that everyone walks away with valuable insights.

With a dedication to education and a talent for elucidating intricate information, Mark is committed to ensuring that every participant in our courses leaves equipped with practical knowledge and skills they can apply in their respective fields. Join Mark in our educational journey, where learning is engaging, enriching, and tailored to meet the needs of every learner

The reason they started Defib Hawaii is personal. Syrina’s brother died at 50 from a heart attack, and the people around him didn’t know how to help. Since 2017, Syrina has been teaching people about AEDs and CPR. Mark likes making learning fun, especially for community members, nurses, and medical professionals. They believe learning life-saving skills should be stress-free, enjoyable, and suited to your background. Why go through a boring course when you can have a positive and new learning experience?
